Co-Founder Marlyn Tillman, Attorney Michael Tafelski and Juandolyn Stokes of On Point With Juandolyn Stokes discuss the school to prison pipeline and criminal justice.
This week on, OPWJS, Juandolyn was joined by Co-Founder of Gwinnett STOPP, Marlyn Tillman, and Supervising Attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), Michael Tafelski. The guests discussed the school to prison pipeline, which is a national trend designed to funnel black and brown children out of school and into the juvenile justice system and or the criminal justice system often times for innocuous behaviors. Unfortunately, black and brown children, children with disabilities, children from low-income families, and mostly boys are targeted. Last week the SPLC was successful in overturning a case out of Gwinnett County Public Schools where a middle school boy was expelled for an off-campus incident.
