School Days: Community Leader sheds light on discipline practices and the extreme disparities

Melody Brooks, Policy Manager and Coalition Coordinator for Gwinnett Parent Coalition to Dismantle the School to Prison Pipeline (Gwinnett StoPP) and Juandolyn Stokes discuss the serious issue of discipline disparities Black and Brown Students face in comparison to their White counterparts.

Ms. Brooks discussed the work Gwinnett STOPP is doing in Gwinnett County Public Schools to change the culture of discipline for black and brown students who often face severe disparities in punishment.


Gwinnett STOPP supports parents with advocacy training and policy change facilitation to make learning experiences, particularly in the new digital environment fair and equitable. The digital environment has created a new set of challenges for students, parents and teachers and privacy issues are at the top of the list.
