Rashad Richey Show: DeKalb CEO Says He's Still Cleaning Up Vernon Jones Mess

Sourced Through Vernon Jones Facebook Page

Popular DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond (D) joined The Rashad Richey Morning Show to give his perspective on GA State Representative Vernon Jones' (also former DeKalb CEO) speech at the Republican National Convention. During the speech, Jones described the Democratic Party as racist and went on to explain why he's supporting Donald Trump, even though Jones is still a Democrat. Mr. Jones did not provide a policy argument, but rather an emotional one. While Jones maintains that Black Democrats are on a "plantation", he himself received most of his support from those same Black Democrats for years. DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond says Jones’ strategy is to dissuade Black voters with talking points, not facts, and create the effect of voter suppression in the community. The DeKalb CEO also highlights the imperfections of the Democratic Party, but reminds listeners of the exodus of Democrats in the 60's who are today's Republicans. “It’s insulting to African-Americans” that Jones’ is saying Black Americans are on a mental plantation just because they don't think like him. At the closing of the interview, CEO Thurmond said he's still cleaning up the mess Vernon Jones made when he was CEO of DeKalb County. Listen to the full interview below.
