The self-defense company gives a few tips and tricks to keep you alert during this season so you can feel safe while enjoying the holiday festivities.
Co-founders call and Vanessa Parker of Divas In Defense opened their doors 14 years ago as a way to honor family, but to make an impact for many people. Cole Parker shares that he and his brother grew up seeing domestic violence and knew they had to make a change because most people who witness domestic violence either go on to become perpetrators or try to put a stop to the violence. Cole shares, “We've been able to do a lot I mean even across the world as far as Kuwait and cruise ships and you name it we've trained hundreds of thousands of women in worldwide this is a big thing to be able to touch that.” The self-defense school goes above and beyond when it comes to provided a VIP experience for anyone who walks through the doors.
Vanessa shares that at Divas In Defense they offer a wide range of products including personal classes, corporate classes and even Girl Scout Badges; however and more impressively they also go into detail on self-defense tool handling. So when asked how do they help people prepare for using pepper spray without actually using pepper spray, both Cole and Vanessa jumped in with an interesting and alternative solution that makes them stand out in the industry, “ we have one that has water in it so we have a Target and we have water that's exact same size you can kind of get the feel of it which is what sets apart from a lot of other people cuz we do teach a lot of times you can't teach pepper spray because you have to actually leave their rooms.”
The Divas In Defense Co-Founders were able to explain the difference between a self-defense class versus a karate or martial arts class and even the difference between a kickboxing and self-defense class. Ultimately the difference comes down to the mentality, while these other physical training programs may teach you the form or the basics to defend yourself, the big difference is knowing you are potentially fighting for your life and deciding what you are willing to do to survive. Another key difference Divas in Defense Co-Founders talk about is knowing you are worthy of fighting - not just fighting, but living. They’ve found often times people don’t want to be mean or hurtful to others, but when you get right down to it, it’s all about protecting yourself and you deserve to live.
